FAQs

Question

How do you pronounce Devendra's name?

Answer

Each syllable carries equal weight, so it’s pronounced day-ven-druh. English is a stress-timed language, while Hindi is a syllable-timed language. To pronounce the name Ashley using a stress-timed language like English, the stress is on the first syllable: ASH-lee. English speakers naturally want to pronounce Devendra's name as day-VEN-druh because we are accustomed to a stress-timed language. A native Hindi speaker pronounces all three syllables with relatively equal length & weight: day-ven-druh. We promise, Devendra is not offended if you struggle to pronounce his name. He has even suggested people call him "Dave" if that's easier!

Question

Are Devendra and Ashley already married?

Answer

Yes! We were legally married last November and are celebrating traditionally this year. There is more information about this in “Our Unfolding Story” on the Home page.

Question

Will this be a traditional Indian wedding?

Answer

No, this will be an American style wedding with some Indian influences in terms of decorations. However, we will be having a traditional week-long Indian wedding next year in India that you're also invited to—more on that in “Our Unfolding Story” on the Home page.

Question

Are children invited to both the ceremony and reception?

Answer

Yes! A nursery attendant(s) will be available at St. Jude's for young children as the ceremony may be tough for kiddos to sit through. We suggest parents consider using our nursery attendant for preschool-aged children & younger. We are excited to have your kiddos of all ages join us at the reception!
