We both moved to Royal Oak officially the same weekend in the summer of 2015. Both being new residents to the area, we used an online dating app (YES, tinder) and swiped right for each other. I had never been on a *blind* first date, so naturally was very nervous. We met at lockharts in royal oak and ended up talking for hours, hitting it off immediately. We continued to go on dates for the next few months until he took me out to Rochester for the infamous Christmas lights to surprise me and officially ask me to be his girlfriend. The rest was history!!
Every fall my parents go to Traverse City for my mother's birthday, so the vacation up north was something I was involved in planning which didn't throw me off. We headed up north to this cute little inn right on the water with it's own vineyard. We first arrived late at night and the inn keeper had this old fashioned hand written receipt that apparently had "photographer and champagne" written and added into the price. I wondered why the room cost more but Dave insisted it was fine. The next day I was asked what I would like to do before my mom's birthday dinner and I said we should just wine taste at the vineyard which luckily was a part of the plan. As we were wine tasting the owner who doubled as a photographer was wandering the grounds. Dave asked her if she could take a family picture by the water. As we walked down to the beautiful water front I noticed Dave became nervous and had his hand in his pocket. As we posed for the picture he pulled his hand out of his pocket and got down on one knee. All I remember after that is my mom crying/laughing and a sparkly ring placed on my finger. I couldn't even tell you what he said but I said Yes to it! The entire vineyard was in on it and everyone started cheering from the top of the hill. Champagne was brought to us where the 4 of us celebrated and I spent the rest of the weekend staring at my hand and Dave in disbelief. Which was both from excitement of being engaged to the most wonderful guy I had ever met and the fact that I didn't have a manicure!
