Our story is far from ordinary and boring. We're both in the United States Army and we met each other stationed in Korea! I wasn't even suppose to be at Camp Casey, Korea. My original orders were for Ft. Lewis Washington. My assignment got changed the WEEK before leaving! We still joke about that from time to time. Fate was in the working! Out of the 1% of people who join the U.S military what are the chances we meet one another in a foreign country and be in not only the same unit but same platoon?? We met briefly my first day. Although I'll admit I was too distracted being worried about my first platoon run with my new unit...but later that night we both attended an opening on post where a concert was being held. It was "strongly" encouraged everyone in our platoon go, but not mandatory. I almost didn't go because I was still so new and felt nervous but I held my head up high and headed out to the festivities! I checked in with my platoon Sgt and said hello, when i ran into Chris and his friend from our platoon. They were about to go off post and although there were rules against new soldiers going off post so soon, I wanted to go on an adventure and was too excited to turn the opportunity down! We headed off post, waiting at the subway station when I got a text message I needed to report back. I was so bummed out but instead of retreating to a boring night at the barracks, Chris and I hung outside the bench area and talked for what seemed like forever. It was an instant click. I still wanted a little adventure (and there's not much you can do on post) but we took the first bus to the PX (like a mini Walmart/Mall Army version) and ate a sub sandwich laughing about who the scary Russian was from Dodgeball. It didn't take much! I didn't want it to end! So instead of taking a bus we walked ALL the way back talking about anything and everything. Little did I know he would be taking me to explore my first Korean city outside post, and later on become my husband.
It was night and I had just picked him up from a friends house. It wasn't long until he whipped out what I saw to be this cute little red stocking with a big letter A on it. I noticed something was inside so the first thing I pull out was a adorable little Dory (from finding Nemo) Christmas ornament. He knows how much I'm a sucker for Disney and little kid movies! I thought it was the cutest thing ever and my eyes were watery from laughing so much! That was enough for me I didn't think there was more but he told me to keep looking and I found the diamond ring he had placed inside. I said of course yes!
Any normal love story of course the bride and groom create and plan the wedding BEFORE saying I do but that wasn't the case for us! Both of us being in the military means we cannot share a home or a life together unless we are married. Christian and I became husband and wife when we said our vows to each other on December 9th, 2016. Now we want nothing more than to plan a fairy tale wedding and renew our vows but this time with family and friends being able to attend!
For those who don't know, Christian and I will be moving to Hawaii next summer. We also have so much family scattered across the states! So it was hard trying to decide a wedding location so we just decided on Hawaii where we'll be living and we can physically plan our fairy tale wedding! Take notice it is set for summer of 2019 right now, the date isn't in stone but we are creating this now to keep family and friends updated so when the time comes you all will be able to attend our fairy tale wedding in Hawaii! We would love to see everyone!!
