On 03.16.16 Ashley made the decision to intentionally and consistently pursue a relationship with Christ. Following this pursuit, Ashley attended church 1 Sunday and felt something she had never felt before. An intense feeling perceived as a message from God. This sensation occurred during an announcement asking for volunteers to travel to Haiti for a mission trip. With faith, fear of inadequacy as a believer, OCD tendencies, and 15 strangers by her side, she traveled to Haiti on 07.09.2017. Haiti was a life changing experience for Ashley as she had no doubt it was God's plan that she be there. Shortly after the Haiti trip, Ashley's clinical fellowship year came to an end and she became a fully licensed and ASHA certified SLP. She considered a position as a traveling speech therapist, but before taking her next step decided to fast and pray. During that time she experienced that unforgettable sensation again and to her dismay, Christ pointed her in the direction of Dallas, Texas. In total faith, she resigned from her current job packed her bags and moved to Dallas. She knew Jesus had something or someone awaiting her arrival..

It was a Sunday.. We were introduced by mutual friends from Bible study when attending a church service at The House Fort Worth. Following the service the group decided to eat at Mexican Inn. Divine intervention placed Cameron and Ashley next to each other during their meal. Ashley discussed her journey of faith and building a deeper relationship with Christ. Cameron attempted to play it cool, too cool. Ashley almost immediately wrote him off as she assumed he hadn’t actually heard a word she said. During the next Bible study Cameron made an announcement soliciting support for the football team he coached. Ashley was approached and asked if she wanted to attend a game. She agreed and the football group chat was created. After a few games, brief greetings following the games, and little to no conversation in the group chat (Ashley doesn’t do those very well), Cameron took it upon himself to approach Ashley after Bible study. They laughed and bonded over their mutual love of movies. However, Ashley loves horror films Cameron... does not. But Cameron, continuing to play it cool, invited her over. They hung out a week later following a church conference Ashley attended at OCBF and of course she provided the scary movies. Thank goodness for long conversations, as they never managed to watch a single movie. To Ashley’s surprise it was revealed Cameron not only heard every word spoken at Mexican Inn, but he possessed a deep knowledge and love for the word of God. They’ve hung out almost everyday since that Sunday..

Ashley and Cameron believe fasting and prayer are essential practices and frequently engage in them together. It was through these practices that they both realized it was within God’s will for them to spend their lives together. Unbeknownst to Ashley, Cameron engaged in a week long fast of his own. During that time he learned 07.06.2019 would be the day he proposed. The week leading up to the proposal their faith, relationship, and patience were tested. The couple engaged in a joint fast intended to last for 1 week; however Christ spoke to Cameron, telling him the fast was to end after 3 days. That was how long it took Him to fulfill His promise to the world and that is how long Cameron needed to fulfill his. Cameron decided his proposal should incorporate 2 of the qualities he was grateful Ashley possessed. Those qualities are Ashley's love for family, her communication skills and her willingness to help him with his. He already knew the proposal should take place at her family’s home in Houston. Ashley previously created a game where each person had to describe an object in the vicinity, but out of sight and the other person had to guess what that object was. He adapted the game for it’s new intended purpose to include teams of 2, a blindfold for the guesser, and a limit of 5 clues for the describer. Cameron went 3rd and provided only 4 clues to describe the ring box to Ashley. Ashley being the smart, beautiful woman she is guessed “jewelry box” (close enough). Ashley took the blindfold off to find Cameron down on 1 knee. He promised to love her forever and of course she said “YES”.
