Duck Camp (We Love It!!) - We both attended Tarleton’s Freshman camp, also known as Duck Camp, two weeks prior to the first day of our freshman year. Everyone was gathered in the gymnasium getting ready for the festivities to begin. Ashley was sitting in the stands next to her friend Brittany when Andy walked into the room. Ashley turned to Brittany and said “I’m going to marry that man right there!!” After Duck Camp was over, there was a party at a lake just outside of Stephenville, TX. Ashley and Andy had their first conversation while attending this party and even took their first picture together. Andy had a girlfriend at this time so he “friend-zoned” Ashley without even realizing it. Four years of a friendship later, in typical fashion, Ashley walked right up to Andy and asked “you know I’ve had a crush on you for four years right?” Andy, being a typical oblivious guy, looked at her embarrassed and said “I had no idea.” Ashley then proceeded to invite him to her sorioritie’s formal in which Andy gladly accepted. Andy then took off his friendship vail and looked at Ashley in a different light that evening. We had an incredible night and the rest is history!!
Enchanted Rock - Andy invited Ashley's parents, Paul and Lisa Skopal, out to dinner at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse while Ashley was out of town in February of 2018. At dinner, Andy asked for their permission to take their daughter's hand in marriage. Andy was delighted to receive their blessing and knew there was now just one more person to ask, Ashley. Andy is the youngest grandson of Marian and Allan Jacobi. With all of the other grandsons already being married, he was blessed to receive his grandmother's wedding ring that she had worn for more than 50 years! Marian was living in Fredericksburg, Tx and Andy wanted to make sure she was apart of the engagement celebration. With her birthday and Easter Sunday both falling on the same day in 2018, he decided that would be the perfect weekend to pop the question. Ashley's family is from San Antonio, so Paul and Lisa suggested that we come down and join them for Easter. This gave us the great excuse to go down south without raising any questions in Ashley's mind. On the trip down, Andy told Ashley that his family would be going to Fredericksburg that Saturday to see their grandmother for her birthday. Andy suggested that since they would already be in Fredericksburg, they should go to the iconic Enchanted Rock State Park for a nice hiking adventure before meeting up with the family. We arrived at the park that Saturday afternoon and began our hike. On the trail, Ashley leaned over to Andy and whispered "I think those guys are following us.." Little did she know that the gentlemen she was referring to, was the photographer and videographer that Andy had hired to capture the moment. At the top of the Rock, Andy got down on one knee, and proposed. Ashley was very surprised/ecstatic and accepted the "Rock." We traveled back down the hill to a second surprise, a picnic at a pavilion where we were greeted by our friends and family. It was a day/moment we will never forget!
