First came Nick, Ashley's brother. Nick has been one of my brother’s best friends for a while now and as luck would have it one year, Steve and Nick were short players for coed softball league. So I got a call to sub for them. Next thing I knew I was on the team, making new friends, and meeting their families. Then came Ashley, we met at one of our softball games. Needless to say our friendship began to form. She was funny, kind, and a good person...the list goes on. Although at the time she lived in Vegas, she came to visit often to spend time with her family. Then news spread that she and Nick would be getting a place together, and she would be moving to live in California. My family offered to let her stay with us until their place was ready to move in because she started her job early. Mornings started off having coffee and breakfast, nights having dinner and watching movies. It wasn’t until February that our friendship became something more. My grandmother was hospitalized and Ashley was there for me and my family everyday. I have never met anyone more selfless, it was then I knew I found someone special. Finally, I mustered up the confidence to ask her out a little over a week before her birthday. The last 4 years have been a rollercoaster of a ride in this life, but there is no other person in the world I would rather share the highs and lows of life with than her.
Ashley and I had been dating for about 2 years when I knew she was the one, it was then that I had asked her parents permission to marry their daughter. When I went ring shopping I started to plan out on how I would propose. In the midst of planning, every time I would get close to trying to figure something out, something would come between those plans. October of 2017, we found ourselves in a life altering situation, not because I proposed, but because we were caught in the middle of the Las Vegas shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. In that moment, there was so much running through my mind. Trying to get us out of the venue alive, trying to stay in contact with our loved ones, but most importantly not a moment went by where I didn’t think about keeping Ashley safe. To this day, I know how blessed we are to have made it out alive and unharmed, but forever changed. The following September, almost a year since the shooting, Jason Aldean was performing again. My friend, then thought, what a great way to close a chapter of one story, and begin a whole new one with all of our friends there to witness the love we have for each other. So, we got on a party bus to enjoy a night full of country music, to finish what we had started that night in Vegas, and we shared so much laughter, love, memories, and tears that we will forever cherish. I could not have been more grateful, that in that moment, the proposal worked out perfectly. Now I await my greatest adventure. No matter the obstacles we face, we will always face them head on, together.
