Ashley and Matt met in 2017 as freshmen at RIT, living just a few doors apart in the dorms. Ashley made sure to bring Matt out of his shell by inviting him to floor events, while Matt tried to win her heart with frozen KitKats stashed in her dorm freezer. (Spoiler: it worked.) Before long, movie nights with friends became their favorite tradition, and Matt even went so far as to move his class schedule just so he could be Ashley’s chemistry lab partner. Smooth move, right? By Thanksgiving of that year, Matt was already telling his family and friends about Ashley around a bonfire, and they could tell from the way he talked about her that she was going to stick around for good. When Ashley’s sister later came to visit her at college and met Matt for the first time, she saw the same spark—and joked that “Matt” would be a regular name in the family soon.
