Back on May 5th of 2019, my roller derby team, The Illiana Derby Dames, had a game with another team. After the game, my teammate, "Tater" (aka Rachel Rossi), came up to me and said, "So, my brother saw your Tinder profile (cue embarrassing music here)... and he wants to take you out on a date. My response to her was this: "Ok, I have 3 questions for you about him. #1 How old is he? 12? because I feel as if you asking me is something a middle schooler would do." She replied, "He's 33, about to be 34 in a couple of weeks. He had to leave because he works early in the morning, so he couldn't ask you himself." I said, "OK, What does he do for a living?" (NOTE: I had just gotten out of a relationship a month or two prior with someone who was not trying to better themselves, so I wanted to make sure he had a job and his parents weren't paying for our date like the last guy.) She said, "Don't worry. He has a good job. He works for the railroad in Chicago." I said, "OK, final question: What does he look like?" She smirked and said, "Well... He looks like me, but with a beard!" At that point, I asked her what his name was and later that night proceeded to "Facebook Stalk" him. While I was in the middle of looking at his profile, he sent me a friend request on Facebook. I freaked out a little because I was trying to figure out how he knew I was looking at his profile, I dropped my phone instantly. I let his friend request sit there for a couple of days until our next derby practice. I then asked Tater that night, "Hey, your brother sent me a friend request on Facebook. What should I do?" Her reply? "Um, accept it? Honestly, he's a really good guy who has been in bad relationship after bad relationship because of the crazy hours he works with his job. So, accept his request. Go on a date, and who knows, you might become my sister-in-law some day." So that night, I accepted his request and I've been smitten ever since.
