In 2011, I packed up my bags, bought almost everything from the "off to college" section of Target, and drove 3.5 hours with my parents up to a small town called, San Luis Obispo. Three hundred miles from the opposite direction of California, Paul Mallari was moving into the same dorm with his amp, guitar, electric base, and actual useful things that I'm pretty sure his mom made sure he packed. Some time during that first week of school, I found myself with a group of friends at one of the sorority houses trying to introduce ourselves, awkwardly shouting over loud music. That was the first time I ever met Paul and my first thought was: That kid needs a haircut.
Once we were both finally settled into SLO and figured out how to balance school, he quickly became one of my closest friends. Some of my favorite memories of our friendship included Paul talking to his Electrical Engineering textbooks, referring to his classes as the 'studies of Black Magic' while I was busy yelling at my laptop, trying to load windows on a MacBook Pro just so that I could yell some more while playing League of Legends (#nerds). Sometimes we would procrastinate on school by piling a group of our friends into Paul's 2000 Honda Prelude and drive off into random adventures that were filled with: laughs, donuts and Thai tea, sometimes splinters that clung to your sweaters, and a lot of shooting stars. And to be honest, our love didn't happen overnight. Our friends who know us will tell you that they were Team Paul & Ashlee before Paul and Ashlee realized they were a team. Despite spending so much time together and always teaming up to plan trips and events for our friends, it took a while for us to realize this about each other: It's you! November 11, 2013 we decided "Why not? Let's do this thing!" And the rest...became known as the #AdventuresofPaulandAshlee.
