Believe it or not, Ashlea and Matt met on the dating app "Bumble". Ashlea knew a Pleasantville police officer and decided to ask him if he knew Matt. He told her that he was a 'good guy' so Ashlea decided to reach out to him. After several days of chatting on Bumble they exchanged numbers and non stop texted each other. Matt asked Ashlea out on their first date on Valentine's Day. On that particular day South Jersey got a terrible ice storm and Ashlea tried to cancel because she was concerned about Matt driving but Matt was determined to find out if he'd been catfished. Ashlea and Matt quickly realized that they had a lot in common and the same sense of humor. They spent the night laughing and hit it off. It didn't take long for Ashlea and Matt to realize that they'd found their perfect match! And Matt didn't realize he'd been catfished until the first night Ashlea took all of her make up off and by then it was too late, Matt was a goner and was hooked.

Matt had been asking Ashlea to go on a sunset boat ride all summer, but with four kids and a busy work schedule, alone time does not happen often. Ashlea went to Charleston to see her friends and Matt asked her if when she got back they could finally go. Ashlea asked her parents if they would watch Logan for her and Matt to have some alone time, and spent the entire day with her family (who knew Matt's plan all along). Ashlea bought a ton of sushi and she and Matt put the boat on the water. On their way to dinner the boat lost power ..twice .. seriously. Matt wouldn't eat anything and claimed his stomach hurt (Ashlea didn't really find this weird because Matt's stomach has a mind of its own). On their way to The Point for some end of the summer cornhole, Matt told Ashlea to sit in the front of the boat because she was getting wet from the waves. Matt stopped the boat very suddenly and Ashlea thought they lost power...again. Matt told her that he got her a necklace and to look inside it.. Ashlea thought this was sweet and when she looked in the necklace saw a picture of Matt holding a sign that said "Will you Marry Me?" Ashlea was shocked and when she turned around she saw Matt on his knee. She was completely shocked and blacked out...she couldn't even remember if she had actually told him yes. She was even more surprised when they got to The Point and she saw both of their families, including her Mimi, waiting to celebrate !
