FAQs

The Wedding Website of Ashley Smith and Ashish Sharma
Question

What should I wear?

Answer

We encourage cocktail attire or Indian style dress for both the Sangeet and the wedding ceremony. Indian weddings are very festive occasions, and as such we welcome colorful and fun attire whether that be kurtas, lehengas, suits, sarees, or your favorite dress. If you aren't sure what you want to wear or have questions, feel free to reach out to either Ashley, Ashish, or you could even text that bum Abhey.

Question

What is a Sangeet?

Answer

This ceremony is observed during the evening a day prior to the wedding. It is an opportunity for the bride's and the groom's families and friends to come together to celebrate and get to know each other. There will be dancing and food. Think of this as a welcome party/wedding reception, but before the wedding! We encourage everyone to wear festive Indian attire, but anything works, as long as it is a little dressed up.

Question

What is a Baraat and when is it?

Answer

The Baraat is a wedding procession that involves live music and dancing while escorting the groom to the ceremony. The Baraat symbolizes the groom's arrival and entrance to a new phase of life. Ours will take place before the ceremony at the Oasis Palace parking lot. Ashish will arrive along with his family and friends, who will escort him while dancing to the ceremony where the bride's family will be waiting to welcome him. Plan to arrive by 10am so you can join in on the festivities! All are welcome to participate in the Baraat procession! You won't regret it.

Question

What will the wedding ceremony be like?

Answer

We are having a traditional Hindu ceremony. It will take place under a mandap, a canopy-like structure that serves as an altar for the ceremony. The word mandap is Hindi for "covered structure with pillars." The four pillars symbolize the four parents that raised the couple. (thanks Moms and Dads!) The pillars also represent the four aspects of human life: Dharma (duty and righteousness), Artha (prosperity and wealth), Kama (desire and love), and Moksha (spiritual liberation). The Pandit Ji (priest) will officiate the ceremony and recite the verses in Sanskrit/Hindi and English. Our family members will also have roles during the ceremony.

Question

Will there be parking?

Answer

Yes, there will be free parking at the venue on both days. And both hotels we recommended have parking, too.

For all the days along the way
