Our story is your typical millennial love story involving a dating app. Ashima was the first to "swipe right" after seeing Joe's profile. She loved the pictures he had of him presenting, the photos of his family, and also his funny comments, such as, being great at giving nicknames. Joe laughed at the answers to Ashi's questions, specifically: What would the title of your memoir be? Ashi's answer was, The Taming of the Curls. He loved her smile in every picture and was so excited to meet. We settled on our first date at Cultivar, a snug wine bar in the Marina district of San Francisco. Ashi arrived first, of course, always a bit early, and chose a spot inside. Joe arrived shortly later and suggested the more intimate back patio. We immediately hit it off. We spoke about our families, our love for travel, 80's music, dogs, and the Bay Area. Ashi was almost giddy as they spoke, she was so enamored. Joe was hands down the most handsome man she had ever seen. Joe couldn't break eye contact, whether from the interest in the conversation or the sheer beauty of the girl sitting across from him. We spoke non stop for four hours, eventually shutting down the bar, barely into our second glass of wine. Joe walked Ashi to her Uber, making sure she made it back safely with a quick text as well. In the Uber home, Ashi texted her friends "I think I found the one." And the rest is history!
June 26, 2021 Joe, Ashi, Carmen, Steve, Diana, and Winnie were all spending an amazing weekend at Pine Mountain Lake. The weekend so far had consisted of boating, picnics, golfing (for Joe and Steve of course), and a fun girls trip to quaint Sonora. That evening, we were set to dine at the club house overlooking the golf course. Joe had made it a point to tell Ashi to pack a nice dress. After getting ready, we all piled in to the car and drove to the club house. Joe wanted to arrive early so we could grab a drink at the bar prior to dinner. He mentioned wanting to show Ashi the view over the 10th hole that he noticed that day. When they got to the restaurant, drinks in hand, Joe walked Ashi outside. We overlooked the 10th hole, which was a sprawling green, butting up against the pine studded mountains, watching the sun start to set. Joe put his arm around Ashi. "Remember when we first matched on Hinge, I said I was good at nicknames. You asked me what I would give you, and I said I had to get to know you a bit better. Well, I still haven't given you one yet. So ..." Joe then got down on one knee and pulled the ring box out. "How about fiance, then wife?" Of course the waterworks started, Ashi cried and said yes. Joe cried, slipping the ring on her finger as he hugged her. The guests in the restaurant opened the doors leading to the deck and were all cheering and clapping. It took a while for Ashi to stop crying tears of joy. That day was truly one of the best moments of our lives, knowing we will get to marry each other's soulmate.
