Polka King is truly the king of Porters! They have amazing seasonal brews and beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. This brewery rivals most. And they just added a side kitchen! We think we will be stopping through here on the 4th, but honestly any chance you get to go - GO!
I mean, we can't have a wedding in Door County without recommending everyone to visit the reason why we fell in love with the Peninsula. We have been company members with this theater for the last six years, and as soon as you walk on campus you will understand the reason we happily come back year after year. We might see if we can schedule a time to bring y'all here for a quick tour!
We love food. All kinds. But this place might be the top of our list for favorite restaurants anywhere. From fresh east and west coast oysters, daily crudo and seafood specials, cheese curds that leave most other Wisconsin curds in the dust, and a staff that not only has a excellent rapport with the locals, but remembers each vacationer when they return year after year. Because you will want to return year after year. Cocktails reign supreme here. Harter's favorite: The Beet Down. Ashley's favorite: The Comrade. Couple's favorite: The Rusty Leaf. And if Kayla is behind the bar, say hi! She owns Garden Gables - the wedding venue! Reservations highly recommended - but we also enjoy showing up at opening to sit at the bar and chat with Mike, the owner.
Door County is known for it's gorgeous sunsets, beer, cherries, and outdoor activities (in our opinions). Easiest way to experience all four would be to spend the day at the park (or any park in Harter's opinion). Enjoy the beach (kayak and canoe rentals available) at Nicolet Bay, rent bikes and ride the Sunset trail, hike the Eagle, Skyline, or Lone Pine trails, and picnic at one of the numerous look out points in the park. Day passes are available at the park office. Other outdoor recommendations (we have many): Newport State Park - Europe Bay Trail - Prime Stargazing Park Whitefish Dunes State Park - Dog beach is the happiest place on earth - Great place to swim. Cave Point - Gorgeous Limestone cliffs and caves - Crowded since it is free to park and visit Door Bluff and Ellison Bluff Parks - Incredible overlooks on the Northern end of the county.
A must for serious coffee lovers. Small batch roastery. If Harter goes here on the reg, then you know it is worth checking out. Hours are a little odd, so check them out on instagram to see any updates. If they aren't open and are in the mood for serious cup of coffee check out - Discourse (Sister Bay), Bearded Heart Coffee (Bailey's Harbor), Leroy's (Ephraim), Heirloom Provisions (Bailey's Harbor)
This Pizza and Beer establishment is not to be missed during your visit. Now with three locations in the Northern Door (Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, and Sister Bay), a great spot for a lunch after a hike in the park or swim in the bay. You can guarantee Ashley's dad, Scott, will be visiting as many times as he can during the week.
