What we desire most of all for our wedding is for all our family and friends to come and join us for our big day. So, the fact that many of you are traveling all the way to Mexico to join us is really gift enough. However, as many of you have been asking about gifts, we've created a registry with Zepika. The list can be consulted by following the link https://www.zepika.com/
While certain parts of Mexico are known to be dangerous, Mexico City itself is safe. Like any major city, there are neighborhoods that should be avoided, but if you stick to recommended areas and use common sense, you should be A-okay! Here are a few do's and don'ts we recommend when exploring the city, especially Downtown: DO: - Take Uber late at night instead of walking (as you would anywhere). - Look both ways when crossing streets, and don't assume anyone will slow down for you — cars and scooters own the road! - Dial 911 for police / 066 for ambulance. DON'T: - Expose your valuables/status. Phones hanging out of back pockets, flashing cash, and large cameras might lure a pickpocket. - Bring your most expensive accessories. - Carry tons of cash.
Mexico City's tap water is undrinkable (for locals and tourists alike). But not to worry — there's plenty of drinking water available throughout the city!
As is recommended throughout the city, Uber is an extremely affordable and convenient option from the airport. When you exit customs, head outside where you can grab an Uber right on the curb. If you are more comfortable with private transfer, there are lots of safe and affordable options, such as this: https://www.viator.com/tours/Mexico-City/Mexico-City-Shared-Arrival-Transfer/d628-5885MEXAPTHT
Uber is HIGHLY recommended in Mexico City. Typically, an Uber ride around town runs about $1.50 - $3... If you prefer to grab a taxi, be sure they are the pink ones. But funnily enough, they are still more expensive than Uber!
The food is one of our favorite things about Mexico City, but it's a fickle friend. Sometimes a little tummy trouble is inevitable when traveling, but in Mexico it tends to be extra sneaky. To be super safe, you may want to avoid any food that could be potentially washed in water — fruits and veggies with no peels, salads, etc. — and things that are greasy and spicy. Sticking to cooked foods is typically safest. Again, probiotics are your friend!
Since Mexico City sits at a fairly high elevation in the center of the country, it has subtropical highland climate which makes it generally mild and dry. You can expect temperatures to be around 80°F (27°C) during the day and 60°F (15°C) at night. The wedding date falls on the cusp of the rainy season, so please pack an umbrella in case we have showers! Luckily, however, if and when it does rain, it usually only happens once a day and doesn't last long.
The conversion from pesos to USD is usually around 20:1 (Pesos:USD).
Yes, but depends on where you are! In a restaurant, 10-15% is expected. For taxis/Uber, is it not expected unless the driver helps with your luggage (10-20 pesos is fine). Street vendors do not expect a tip, but a "keep the change" is always appreciated.
Mexico uses the same type of US outlets, with the same voltage as well (110 volts). All of your US charges and adapters will work without issues and without needing any type of converters.
