Well, as love stories in my family tend to go, Asa & I grew up together. And again, as love stories in my family tend to go, it took a LONG TIME for the cute church boy to notice me! (For those of you in the dark... make a call to my momma and ask her how her church crush wound up her husband.) While it was rare for the Bratlien family to attend a Saturday service and just as rare for the Balster family to attend a Sunday service, the stars did sometimes align: Bratliens in the second row, Balsters in the third, and me... staring at the back of Asa's head willing him to turn around and notice me... maybe when they asked us all to shake hands. Well... as the story goes, it never happened, and I continued on to point him out to my mom at youth group events as the guy that I still thought was cute. It took until our senior year of high school to finally make a connection! And, as every church crush story goes, and as Kaylie Brase would attest to, it started at a youth group event! He had finally noticed me enough (aka, I was the only senior girl who attended the event) to lend me his jacket as I had forgotten mine and it was FREEZING! He later asked one of his friends for my number and started texting me on rare occasion. A few months later we went out on our first date and started texting and hanging out on a much more regular basis. From there, our families would complain that we became inseparable! About 6 months later we made our move to UW-Eau Claire knowing we wanted to get married eventually. Here we are, a year later, and you're visiting our wedding website! From dancing in the kitchen about going on a date with THE Asa Bratlien... to writing our story on the cover of our website... I really could not be more thrilled to be here and am so glad to have all of you coming alongside us!
