How We Met (from John)

How'd all these people get in my house? Good thing Courtney was one of them.

I met Courtney back in January of 2019. My roommate was having a "small" get together for a friend visiting town. I left for about 30 minutes to grab groceries and, unbeknownst to me, our 5 or 6 guests ballooned to 20 by the time I had gotten back. Thankfully, Courtney was one of those surprise guests. We chatted about our shared interests in soccer and medicine, then she left- too soon for my liking. We wouldn't talk again for several months until she made the first move by texting and asking me to be on her co-ed soccer team. That lit the match and suddenly I was going to events I knew she'd be at and found myself playing on 2 Tuesday night soccer teams just so I could be on her team. One evening after a post-soccer game dinner, I took her out for ice cream. An hour and a half walk later with Graeter's in hand, I asked her on our first date. The rest is history.

The Proposal (from Courtney)

5.26.21

I was celebrating with my roommate, Ifeoma, for her acceptance into nursing school with some friends for dinner and drinks. She had been looking for venues to celebrate her birthday and asked if we could go check one out after finishing dinner. Of course I agreed and we headed to downtown Louisville to the Frazier Museum. We met the event coordinator at the side door and she proceeded to tell us about how amazing the rooftop was for a birthday venue. We rode the elevator up to the rooftop and as the doors opened there was a bourbon barrel with a bucket of champagne, a vase of lilies and 2 champagne flutes. The even coordinator let us know this was complimentary for guest inquiring about the venue. My initial reaction was Ifeoma you have to have your birthday here and are you sure we don't have to pay for this champagne. The rooftop was beautiful and the sun was setting over the river so we walked over to the edge to take some photos. Ifeoma then proceeds to tell me she has to go and begins walking away. I then turn around and see John walking towards me and I knew right away he was about to propose. I started crying and have NO CLUE what he said to me. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had arranged one of his very good friends, Tanner, to take photos of the engagement as well. John and I then got to celebrate, just the two of us, on the rooftop afterwards. Once we finished soaking it all in, he gathered my closest friends to be at my apartment for a small celebration that evening. We are so excited to celebrate with you!! See you in Louisville!
