We matched on the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel. Aryeh's fun fact was that he ran the NYC Marathon in 2016, which prompted Abbi to reach out and ask why one would ever run so far without being chased. We met for "a drink" at Brasil Café and Bar in Houston, TX the next day. We spent hours sitting at Brasil, and we just clicked right away. What Abbi did not know was that Aryeh was in tech rehearsals for a production at Houston Grand Opera and would be drinking tea. Nonetheless, we have been drinking tea (and more adult beverages) together ever since!
Aryeh had just finished the Adler Fellowship Program at San Francisco Opera and told Abbi he had planned a celebratory dinner at our favorite restaurant, Octavia. Aryeh decided (much to Abbi's dismay) to "go for a walk" around the Palace of Fine Arts before dinner. It had been raining everyday for almost two weeks (which never happens in S.F.), so Aryeh used that as his excuse to get us out of the apartment. This meant getting ready over an hour before our dinner reservation. He tried getting Abbi off of the couch (even bringing her toothbrush to her!) and into "something cute". We had been to this restaurant many times before, wearing jeans and the like, so Abbi was confused as to why we would dress up. What Abbi did not know was that there was a photographer waiting at the Palace of Fine Arts to take pictures as Aryeh proposed! We ended up arriving twenty minutes after Aryeh's set time with the photographer. After a very swift walk around the Palace of Fine Arts pond, Aryeh paused our walk and gave Abbi some meaningful gifts. Abbi had no idea what was coming, and Aryeh got down on one knee. Abbi said yes, and we then went off to actually have dinner at Octavia, where champagne and flowers were waiting!
