Flight
We recommend flying with Aeromexico since it lands on terminal 2, which is much nicer and easier to navigate. Aeromexico also serves you a hot meal! If you want, you can buy the tickets through Delta Airlines.
Travel Note
We highly recommend taking the taxis that are offered there at the airport. Taxi fares from the airport to the hotel Camino Real are around $500 MXN ($25 dlls) for a car and $760 MXN ($38 dlls) for a van. https://taxisnuevaimagen.mx/ https://www.taxisyellowcab.com/
Travel Note
Transportation within the city When moving around the city, taking an Uber instead of public transport is the easiest and safest way. We also encourage asking at the hotel if they can arrange for transport. Currency Card payment is accepted almost everywhere, and it is the safest and most reliable way of paying. If you want to have pesos in cash, it’s best to change at the US airport. If not, try later in a bank or mall in Mexico City. Paying and tipping at restaurants When paying at a restaurant, you won’t give them your card; rather, they will bring you the payment terminal. There, they will ask you “con la cuenta cerrada?” (closed account?) and then, if you want to add tip to your card payment, you will tell them the percentage (the usual is 10-15%), so you would answer “con el diez (10), por favor.” Tipping is expected but not mandatory for all other types of services and the amount varies depending on the service: valet parking $10-$50MXN, buzz boy $20-$100MXN, hairdresser $20-$100MXN Avoid “Moctezuma´s revenge” (food poisoning) Street food: JUST DON’T. It will smell nice, it might even look nice, but it’s a sure trip to the doctor. Don´t drink tap water and go easy on the chile, it hits different in México. Outfits Wearing shorts and sandals in the city will get you IMMEDIATELY recognized as a tourist. Temperatures in May range from 53° to 77° and scattered showers can be expected. Layering is the way to go to keep yourself warm in the mornings and nights, and fresh during the day.
