We’re Getting Married

Arturo & Aileen have known each other since the start of high school. They both sat in close proximity in classes they’ve shared because of their last name. Sophomore year of high school they even sat in the same table group. The couple joked and played around a lot in class but didn’t share their first date until August 23rd 2014, a few weeks after the start of the school year. They saw a movie, If I Stay which of course was Aileen’s idea. They viewed this at the Harkins Theater in Moreno Valley California. During the movie they shared popcorn, M&M’s, and Dr. Pepper. Aileen was never a fan of dark sodas until this moment. After the movie the couple took a walk through the parking lot of the mall and down to the nearby Starbucks (long walk to be honest). They each ordered their respective frapuccinos. Arturo a grande vanilla bean, and Aileen a grande Double chocolate chip (we were definitely 15). The walk was filled with stupid jokes and anecdotes about dating, Aileen was a skeptic about him, but a romantic at heart. She spent some time since they started talking looking up their compatibility astrologically. Cancer & Sagittarius weren’t a great match according to the stars, which she told him. His response was exactly what she’d hoped, “fuck the stars”. Thankfully he was right. The couple solidified their desire to be together a few weeks after their first date. September 9th, 2014 Arturo asked Aileen to be his girlfriend. They have celebrated the date for the last 10 years. They have collected quite a few traditions over the years. Aileen being a big holiday person felt adamant on creating memories with Arturo to have their own family traditions. One of those being attending the same pumpkin patch every year and completing a corn maze. They often do this as their anniversary celebration sometime towards the end of September. This year, 2024 was no different. The pumpkin patch had definitely grown over the 4 years they’d attended and so had they. This year was a bit more special since they were celebrating being together for 10 years! This night September 20th 2024 they’d be engaged. They often run the corn maze together but strategically split up to make sure they didn’t double back in places and waste precious steps, this time was a little different. Arturo didn’t want to separate from Aileen as much. Toward the end of the maze he seemingly gave up on trying as “his directional skills weren’t the best” (sure) so he let her lead. Shortly after Aileen found their way out. They kept on down the private narrow corn lined path, they talked about the past years there and delighted that this one was more of a challenge. During a small moment of silence, Arturo tapped Aileen on the shoulder, when she turned he got down on one knee with the ring in his hand and proposed!
