Like the adorable Millennials they are, Sweeney and Arthur met on an online site called Ok Cupid. When Arthur first contacted Sweeney, it wasn't love at first click, but he seemed nice and she was willing to give him a chance, especially when he mentioned he was a chef! When he suggested Mexican food for a first date, she knew this guy had potential. Sweeney arrived at La Ristra Restaurante in Gilbert, Arizona first, and decided to vanquish her first date jitters by reading the newspaper clippings on the wall about the restaurant's beginnings, including what the hell a ristra is (a bunch of chili peppers dried out by hanging them upside down). When Arthur arrived at the restaurant, Sweeney couldn't help but think, "wow, he's way cuter in person than in his profile pictures!" Which was only the first of other pleasant surprises. They ate tons of chips and salsa, ordered some great food, (bonus points: both of them were willing to eat off each others plates and share!), and had great conversation. He remembered a lot of the details from her profile, which made her think he cared enough to learn a bit about who she was before they even met. When the check came at the end of the date, the waiter asked if they could fill out a mini customer satisfaction survey, which they did. At the end, the survey asked for the participants' names. To Sweeney's horror, she couldn't remember her date's name! Which, by the way, he picked up on when she paused after writing her own name down. "What's my name?" he asked, amused. "What is it?" Sweeney indignantly responded with, "um, I know your name. I'm about to write it down right now!" Luckily, the name Arthur did come back to her a few moments later, and they were able to leave the restaurant without further incident. "Thanks, that was really fun!" -- Sweeney. "Well, you answered one of my questions. First, was if you had a good time; second was if you'd like to go out again?" -- Arthur. She did. And they did. And the rest is history.
Arthur and Sweeney both love Las Vegas, so Arthur suggested they go there one weekend. Unbeknownst to her, he had booked a fancy resort called The Red Rock. They knew it was fancy because there were chandeliers everywhere, and the bathtub had a TV in it! But the first order of business was checking out the plethora of pools and spas outside. Later that evening, after eating at the amazing Wicked Spoon buffet, and then watching a mesmerizing performance by The Blue Man Group, they headed back to their resort. Arthur told Sweeney to wait in the room, while he went to the bathroom. After what felt like forever, he asked her to come in. Red candles lined the double-sink. The bathtub was running, and he handed her a bath bomb that looked like the earth. Sweeney became very interested in the fact that the packaging said that once the bomb dissolved, there was a prize inside. Arthur wanted her to throw the bomb in the tub, which was almost full of water. She wanted to save the bomb until she was actually ready to take a bath, but he was insistent, and she thought, "well, what if there's a ring in there?" She turned, and threw it into the tub. When she turned back around to face him, he was down on one knee with the real ring, and asked if she would marry him. She said yes. And that was that. Also, there was in fact a prize in the bath bomb. It was an adorable, tiny plastic green shark!
