We’re getting married!

We met at a 4th of July party. I was about to shotgun a beer with my cousins, when a random guy walks up and opens my drink. My whole drink started to spill out of the can so he just drank it. I didn't even know his name, but apparently I owed him a shotgun the rest of the night. Since then, we have pretty much been inseparable.

He finally asked me out on our first date—but we couldn’t wait that long, so we planned a little “pre-first date” instead. He picked me up while my mom and sister watched from the kitchen window, hoping to get a glimpse of him (they failed, because he did not get out of the truck). He pulled up in his huge truck, decked out with all kinds of cool gadgets. He was wearing Burberry sunglasses and was dressed so nicely, which made it even more cute considering we were just going to Cane’s. We ordered through the drive-thru and parked to eat in the car. That’s when I realized I was the only one actually eating. He was so nervous that he could barely focus. In the front seat, he sat as far away from me as possible, practically pressed against the driver’s side door. He kept nervously stuttering, and honestly, I thought it was kind of adorable and a little funny. As simple as it was, that little pre-first date meant a lot. It gave us the chance to get to know each other without any pressure. And I’m sure it helped, because by our second date he was noticeably calmer and much less nervous. We genuinely enjoyed each other’s company and appreciated where we both were at in life. Everything just felt right, it truly seemed like the perfect time for us. Not knowing how much of an "us" there would be, it was a memorable first date.
