We were married on June 22, 2021 in a small gathering at the Markey Manor (aka Amanda's parents' backyard). Because of COVID, we were unable to gather many family and friends for the ceremony, which brings us to this event! Nick and I are delighted to invite you to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary Dinner with us in Windsor, CT. We hope you can make it!
As our officiant, John Pullen, said in our ceremony, "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Amanda and Nick spent their second date discussing a math problem and then mutually agreed that there should be a third." On Date #2, Amanda asked Nick, "Have you heard of the marriage problem?" She asked this because - as you know - bringing up marriage and math on a second date is a pretty standard dating tactic. To quote John again, "The Stable Marriage Problem is kind of famous in mathematics and goes something like this: let’s say you started a dating app, maybe you call it Coffee Meets Bagel, and you alone are entrusted with matching every one of your customers into relationships. Is it possible to match everyone up so that no two people would both be happier married to each other than to the partners you have matched them with? When there are no such people, the set of marriages is considered stable." It turns out - Nick not only had heard of the Stable Marriage Problem - he has published papers on it! This was a good early indicator that these two would be a good, stable match!
When Nick was ready to pop the question, he was thrilled to learn that Amanda's family had given her a family ring (the ring of her grandmother, Lilian Wolfe). Just one problem...the ring was in New York City and they were in Texas visiting Amanda's parents. With the help of Laura & Phil (and UPS), the ring arrived in Texas the day before the proposal. The proposal itself was picture perfect. Nick enlisted Sharon and Pete's help, and the three of them arranged a boat ride (Amanda loves boats). Upon arriving to a lighthouse, surrounded by dolphins, Amanda said, "This is everything I've ever wanted!" So Nick pulled out the ring and said, "So why don't we make it forever?"
