We can't wait to celebrate our special day with you!
In 2010, they first met at Mr. and Mrs. Carter's house (sponsor parents for Korean Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy (USNA)). Hannah just finished her freshman (plebe) year at USNA and Soo Ho just graduated from West Point. Soo Ho drove down from West Point to celebrate his Navy classmates's graduation a week after his own. This would be a very weird interaction for those who don't know Soo Ho's back story because why else would a West Point grad go out of his way to celebrate his rival school's commissioning ceremony. Back story: During his junior year at West Point, Soo Ho was an exchange student for a semester at USNA. Since Soo Ho was back in Annapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Carter happily hosted him at their house. This is when Soo Ho and Hannah met for the first time. Following the USNA graduation, Hannah needed a ride to New Jersey to get home for the summer. Soo Ho was driving back up to Philadelphia to catch up with some friends (Dan & Alex) to fly out for a European backpacking trip. So naturally, Hannah hitched a 3 hour ride with a guy who she had just met and the rest is history. Well, they actually... didn't start dating until 2017. But this is the true story of how they first met!
After having downed two packages of Nutella snack packs at the top of a foggy hiking trail at Sequoia National Park, Hannah was licking off the hazelnut goodness off her ring finger when Soo Ho said, let's take a quick photo before we head back down to the car. After setting up a camera on a tripod, Soo Ho had a timer set up on the camera to snap a photo every 10 seconds before getting down on one knee to say, "Hold-on, I need to tie my shoes." No one knows what he actually said because neither Soo Ho nor Hannah remembers the exchange clearly. The little bit that was recollected was Hannah continuously saying "Yes, Yes, Yes!" to something that wasn't asked yet, and Soo Ho finally finding the courage to ask, "Will you marry me?"
