How we Met

A Blue & White Affair

We met through Greek Life! Armyll was becoming a Zeta, I was becoming a Sigma, and we were having a joint presentation. We were both going to be Aces, and Xavia told me that since we were checks, it was my job to make sure that she felt comfortable and welcomed by her new Sigma family. So I asked for her phone number, and checked on her to make sure that she was set for the show. The show went pretty well, with my line kicking things off and warming up the crowd, then Armyll blowing the roof off the place with a stellar performance. Afterwards, I ended up getting two 1 balloons from friends, as it's pretty standard for people to bring a balloon with your line number. Given that Armyll was also an Ace and didn't receive any balloons, I went over to her and offered her one of mine. Armyll's mom made us take pictures together, we made plans to hang out, got Erykah's approval, and the rest was history.

The Proposal

First comes school, then comes marriage.

May 6th, 2022. I was graduating on a Friday, and Armyll was graduating that Saturday. At this point, I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with her, so the only question was when I would propose. It wasn't going to happen at either of our graduations, because I wouldn't want to be that person to ruin everyone else's graduation. We both were having graduation dinners after our graduations, and it made the most sense to ask the question at mine, so that we would (hopefully) already be engaged once we got to hers the following day. I initially kept the circle of people that knew about the engagement very small, but the group of people that knew when it was happening quickly expanded coming up on the moment, whether it was due to Armyll's parents having a last minute conflict and debating attending the dinner, my dad happening to bringing his camera, or my Pop Pop seeing a few people whispering at dinner and putting the pieces together. As more people started to figure out that I would be proposing soon, I worried that Armyll would catch on, but luckily the only thing she was worried about was the soul food. As dinner was wrapping up, the sun was beginning to set, so as my dad and I planned 20 minutes earlier, he got everyone's attention and shared that we would be going out to the fountain nearby to take pictures before the sun set. Everyone heads to the fountain, and my dad asks if we Armyll & I could pose for a few test pictures for him to calibrate his camera. We go in front of the fountain, Armyll starts acting weird because she thinks something may be going on, I get on on knee, and she starts to run away! After a few tears, she said yes, and then left me to go show off her ring to her friends.
