Once Upon a Time...

Noelle was a Teaching Assistant at Diablo Valley College after completing her BA in Theater and attending the National Theater Institute. She was roped into auditioning for the student directed "Brown Bag" production in which she attended the cattle call audition and was asked by a student director: "Noelle can you go stand by John?" To which, Noelle replied: "Who is John?" The stage pointed to a tall dashing young guy with glasses and a mop of hair (yes, remember when John had hair!?) Noelle quickly crossed the stage to the now known John, and said: "Hi, John." John returned a silent wave. Noelle and John were cast in that brown bag which was a short segment from the musical "1776." During this scene John had to make-out with another actor and dear friend (Atessa McAleenan-Morrell) and Noelle provided breath mints. John was brought to Poison Apple by his good friend Jordan Eisenman to be a rehearsal actor for the young director's project. He's been involved with Poison Apple ever since. John and Noelle created a fast bond through their love of theatre creation. John returned from his first summer at Summer Repertory Theater (he returned for a total of 5!) to dive into teching Noelle's "Masterpiece" (self-proclaimed) The Twelfth Seat at the Round Table in 2010 (revised in 2016 to the more accurate title The Thirteenth Seat at the Round Table.) This was the show that fostered Noelle and John's first kiss post opening night! Since August of 2010 John and Noelle have contributed individually to hundreds of theatrical productions for Poison Apple Productions, Bay Area Children's Theater, Concord High School, Diablo Valley College, and many community and professional theaters through Desired Effect. John is a skilled technical director, sound technician, and a visionary lighting designer (coined "the Sondheim of lighting" by dear friend, Logan Brubaker). He is also a skilled carpenter and electrician, and if you haven't heard him sing you are missing out on the voice of an angel. Noelle is an awarding winning playwright, director, stage manager, and choreographer. She loves inspiring youth (and adults) through the power and magic of theatrical storytelling. She's a (currently) retired actor, as she hasn't graced the stage in about a decade. Noelle and John's favorite theatrical projects are the ones they collaborate on at Poison Apple. Memorable collaborations include: The Twelfth Seat at the Round Table August 2010 The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Concord High, 2011) The Little Mermaid JR 2015 Shrek the Musical 2018 Frozen JR 2018 The Lion King JR 2022 When not at the theater (does that happen?), John and Noelle love to cook having coined their own hashtag #latenightcookingwithjohnandnoelle between both their crazy schedules settling in for a meal after 10pm has become a sort of ritual for the couple as they debrief their days and plot to slowly take over the world one theater at a time. Favorite recipes include: Mediterranean Salmon Creme Brûlée Pasta Taco Salads (John makes shells from scratch!) Chicken Soup Grilled sandwiches Due to Noelle's allergy to gluten, John has become quite the Gluten Free baker, creating excellent gluten free (and chocolate free!) carob brownies, bread, pizza crust. Noelle and John also love to play games with friends, including cribbage (John rules!), and dominos (Noelle's secretly good at it!) They also love entertaining friends and family at their home in Concord for dinner and movies (Slings and Arrows anyone?) John and Noelle are the proud parents to (currently) one guinea pig, Fred, who has outlived his other three companions and prefers to have all the human love and cucumbers for himself. On February 25, 2023, John finally decided it was time to propose to Noelle so he planned a beautiful weekend in Monterey Bay including a visit to the aquarium. His proposal was ultimately memorable on a lookout peer over the bay. Noelle (obviously) said "yes."
