We met online—a true modern-day love story—and from the very first date, the rest was history. What we didn’t realize at the time was just how long fate had been quietly at work. After spending several years in California following college, Arman returned to Glenview, the place he grew up. His parents still live in Glenview, and in a surprising twist of timing, Ajla’s mom had purchased a home there in 2020—just five minutes away from Arman’s family. Even more incredible, Ajla had known one of Arman’s best man, Riaz, since college, long before Ajla and Arman ever met. Just days after our first date, Arman moved into his new city apartment. When he checked his mailbox for the first time, he discovered the previous renter shared Ajla’s last name—Husic. That small but meaningful coincidence felt like a sign. Looking back, it’s funny to realize that my future husband—and even my future in-laws—were living just minutes away for years without us ever knowing. The stars truly aligned, and it became clear we were always meant to find our way to each other. On a warm summer night in August, we got engaged at the Rookery, a historic landmark in Chicago. Arman chose the Rookery because it’s a staple of the city where we fell in love—and as the oldest standing skyscraper in Chicago, it represents resilience, much like our bond. Ajla was completely floored. She thought she was attending a friend’s work fundraiser with one of her bridesmaids, Jaye—they even created a fake flyer to make it believable. After the easiest “yes” of our lives, our families revealed themselves from the balcony above, filling the moment with overwhelming joy and emotion. But the surprises didn’t end there. Arman told Ajla we were heading to dinner in the city, and with no idea what was coming, she opened the restaurant doors to find a room full of our closest friends waiting to celebrate with us. It truly was the best day ever. We didn’t just fall in love—we grew into it. Through life’s ordinary and extraordinary moments, we found comfort, joy, and home in one another.
