** Saptapadi (7 Steps/Pheras) **
In the Indian Tradition, the bride and groom walk seven steps (also known as Pheras) symbolic of seven marital vows around the sacred fire holding hands, vowing to God as guide. Here's the meaning of each phera and the importance to the tradition:
1) The first step for togetherness, respect and honor
2) The second step to develop physical and emotional health
3) The third step to increase spiritual health
4) The fourth step to acquire knowledge, happiness and harmony
5) The fifth step to be blessed with a healthy family
6) The sixth step to develop mutual restraint and longevity
7) The seventh step to symbolize mutual love,
friendship and companionship
"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope."
