Colby's Version The summer of 2018 was one to remember. Beginning with late summer nights with good friends and ending with getting to know my future wife. With the help of some life-long friends and an instant connection, I started falling in love with Arleigh. After many nights that I'll never forget, and some nights that are tough to remember, I knew she was the person I wanted to spend my life with. Arleigh's Version It started with a not so subtle plug from Cole in the spring of 2018, stating that he had a friend that was discussing a possible interest in me. This was then followed by consistent invitations from both Brady and Cole to attend parties with their group of friends that just so happened to include Colby. Not long after, my best friend (now, maid of honor), Aislyn and I found ourselves at parties deep in the woods and in unfinished basements. Given some liquid encouragement, Colby and I began talking. When we finally decided to hangout without friends, we went on our first date at Arnie's. Come August, he was headed back to Albany for his second year of college, and I was about to begin my first, he decided it was time to officially ask me to be his girlfriend.
Colby's Version I bought the ring in November of 2023 knowing that I wanted to propose but finding the perfect time was a challenge. When the summer of 2024 started, I knew I would have to take it out of my father's underwear drawer at some point. With a trip planned in July to Philadelphia and Baltimore, I thought about ending it with a proposal in Saratoga. Due to excitement fueled by a live Yankees win and a pretty view, I found the ring in my pocket in Baltimore. Overlooking the Inner Harbor by a red lighthouse, I asked Arleigh to be my wife. Arleigh's Version I had just finished my first year at NAC, and it had been only a month since we closed on our home. I thought we were planning our annual summer trip to check off another baseball stadium from Colby's list and explore two new cities. However, it ended with one more diamond than I had expected. That day, July 13th, 2024, we had traveled to watch the Yankees beat the Orioles in Baltimore. After that, we toured the Inner Harbor. While approaching a lighthouse on the pier, we passed the manager as well as the pitching coach for the Yankees. I had never seen Colby so nervous in my life. Later on, we went to dinner, and if you give a Colby a dinner, he’s going to want some dessert to go with it. We stood in line at an ice cream store, and Colby so oddly said, "this line is too long, let's go somewhere else." Anyone that knows Colby, knows that he will always wait in line for dessert. He then held my hand and veered us towards an unlit path that ended with a lighthouse rather than the lit path towards the restaurants. At this point, I knew something was up because he seemed even more nervous than when we were in this exact spot earlier seeing the coaches. He talked about how "beautiful the view" was, and when I looked back to him, he was down on one knee. I am still unsure if he chose this spot for the view, or because of the sighting of Yankees coaches... regardless, I would not change a thing.
