The Wedding Website of Ariel Johnson and Giovanny Jimenez
Plan to stay within the walled city while in Cartagena for safety and ease. The walled city is extremely walkable, and anywhere you choose to stay will be close to the wedding venues. Below are some hotel recommendations and travel notes from our wedding planner. Airbnb/VRBO both offer great and cost-effective options, as well.

Travel Note

Safety

Cartagena is an extremely tourist-friendly and generally safe area. However, it's very important to stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings. "No des papaya" is something you will hear over and over again in Colombia, and it means not to give someone an opportunity to take advantage of you. For example, don't leave your purse or bag open or unattended, keep it zipped up and on your body at all times. Don't walk around with your iPhone in your hand. Don't keep large amounts of cash with you; leave your valuables and passport locked up in your hotel room or Airbnb. Don't give anyone your CC when making a purchase (it's standard for any restaurant, store, or vendor to bring the card reader to you so you can make a payment).

Travel Note

Transportation - Uber

Use UBER to get around the city, and to and from the airport. Taxis are known for taking advantage of tourists and overcharging.
