FAQs

Question

Ohana means family in Hawaiian

Answer

The Aloha Foundation (founded in 1905 by Hawaiian missionaries wanting to give girls and young women outdoor experiences) encompasses 3 overnight camps, a day camp, a family camp (Ohana) and an outdoor education/leadership program for youth. Their mission is to "inspire people of all ages to learn, explore, grow and become their best selves". Arielle has spent 19 summers and a school year at 4 of the 6 programs!

Question

What if I misgender Arielle?

Answer

Tony will have a squirt gun on him at all times. If you misgender Arielle (they are nonbinary and use they/them pronouns) you will be squirt with water. Proceed with caution.

Question

What is the hotel/accommodation situation?

Answer

Ohana actually has cabins! We would love for you to join us in "glamping" for the weekend. Each cabin has bedrooms with single and bunk beds, full bathrooms, and kitchenettes including a fridge. We will make sure that whoever you share a room with someone you know, but you may be in a cabin with new friends! We will try to have you room with people you know and you'll get to make new friends! A link to reserve a cabin will be available later in the spring. There are also some hotels nearby if you don't want to stay on campus. They include the Lake Morey Resort, the Lyme Inn, and Dowd's Country Inn. There are several big chain hotels in White River Junction VT and West Lebanon NH. All hotels are within 25 minutes driving distance.

Question

Food?

Answer

Three meals are included with your Ohana accomodations - Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and bag lunch on Saturday since the dinning hall will be being decorated for the evening. If you are staying off campus we can make arrangements for you to join us for those meals. Friday and Saturday evening are the big wedding events. You're welcome to bring snacks and beverages or whatever else and keep it in your cabin. Ohana meals are designed to accommodate most dietary preferences. Be sure to include a note in your RSVP or email us.

Question

So we are staying the weekend... do we need to bring anything specific?

Answer

The weather in New England can vary greatly. Late September it could be anywhere from 80 degrees Fahrenheit to 30 degrees. It is likely that the nights will be chilly. Bring some extra layers for evenings and for sleeping, as well as a flashlight or headlamp. Camp terrain is rough so a good pair of shoes/sneaker is a must. Also a hat, sunscreen and bug repellant.

Question

What is your plan for last names?

Answer

Instead of one of us taking the other's last name, we decided to create a new name. We took all the letters in Moreno and Drisko and figured out what words we could make. Our new last name will be Moonrise. We are looking forward to being Mr and Mx Moonrise!

Question

Rural(ish) Vermont... what is cell service like?

Answer

If you have Verizon, you're out of luck. You get to be unplugged all weekend! It's one of the things we love so much about camp. If you have AT&T, service is spotty but does exist. As part of being unplugged there is no wi-fi at Ohana. There is a 24 hour emergency number in case you must be reached. For those who need service, "downtown" Fairlee is about a 15 minute drive.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Nice/casual is fine! If Arielle and Tony were attending as guests, on Friday evening Arielle would probably wear a romper and Tony would wear a button down with black jeans. (this still may be what they wear, but hopefully that gives you some sense). For Saturday - Cocktail attire: Formal but not black tie. We want you to feel comfortable and confident while looking great and be able to get down on the dance floor! Shoes: terrain is grass, gravel and dirt - not a great place for those cute spiky heels.

Question

Will there be a bar? Is there anytime that is BYOB?

Answer

Friday night we will have beer, cider, and wine available. Saturday we will have an open bar from cocktail hour through the end of the reception. There will also be non-alcoholic cocktails and soft drinks. You are welcome to bring your own to consume and keep it in your cabin. Please drink responsibly. Yes, folks will be staying on campus so you may not need to drive anywhere that night and also don't get sloppy. This is a fun and still classy event.

Question

Should I bring my children?

Answer

The woods and outdoors of Vermont are a wonderful place for children to explore. Ohana has a nice little playground and a bunch of games (lawn games and board games). We will have a babysitter on site during the ceremony and reception on Saturday.

Question

Photographs

Answer

We request that you refrain from using your "rectangle" during our ceremony so that you can be fully present in the moment. We would love for you to share any photographs you take. Upload them to a shared google folder that will be sent post wedding weekend.
