How We Met

First Comes Jewish Summer Camp, Then Comes Marriage

Like two ships crossing in the night, over and over and over again. We both attended pre-school at the Suffolk Y JCC ages 3-5 years old, were enrolled in Wonderland day camp at the Suffolk Y JCC ages 5-7 years old, and from ages 7-13 years, we old attended day camp at the Kaufman Campgrounds—and still never met. Summer of 2005 was when we were finally of age to go to teen travel, two bus loads of teenagers traveling along the east coast, and we were put on the same bus. The friendship lasted after camp ended, but it was awfully spotty. Ariel visited Syracuse University in 2010, Jesse showed up at Ariel's house with donuts at random in 2015, a Mets game together, and a hand written birthday card to Ariel on her 24th birthday.

Reconnecting

Summer 2017

In 2017, a mutual friend informed Ariel that Jesse was moving back from San Diego to live and work in New York City. She reached out pending the news, and they spent the better part of Jesse's last 3 months in San Diego talking non stop. From across the country they planned to attend a Mets game with some mutual friends when he returned to New York to start his new job. From that moment on, the rest was history. Skydiving and hiking, traveling and eating. He even convinced her to see multiple Phish concerts, now that is true love—don't you think?

The Proposal

1.2.2020

Jesse carried the engagement ring in his pocket through security with a note on it saying "Engagement ring inside, please be discreet." Even with the improper spelling on the box, the ring made in through security to Mexico. Unbeknownst to Ariel, Jesse worked out a deal with Alan from the resort's front desk to follow them out of the lobby and sneak some photos. Jesse timed the proposal perfectly with the sunset and got down on one knee, and thank god, he did not drop the ring through the slats in the pier!

Maybe the Date

Quarantine 2020

You may have noticed that our "Save the Date" cards actually say "Maybe the Date"! That is because November 7, 2020 is "maybe" the date of our wedding! We thought getting married six days after the NYC Marathon was a great idea. The world may have different plans for us! For now, we are all systems go and so excited to have the wedding in November 2020 on Long Island, as all of our vendors are moving forward with weddings at that time. We of course would not schedule a wedding if it was not safe or responsible to do so. If we have to change the date, we'll let everyone know right away!
