We decided we would make tacos and watch a movie at Dawson’s place. In Ariel’s mind, since it was a movie date at home she thought sweatpants and sandals were the look. However, Dawson figured a date is a date regardless of where it is, so he wore a button up Hawaiian shirt and some shorts. Laughing about our very different outfit choices was the perfect ice breaker. Not that it was exactly smooth sailing after that. We had so much fun making the tacos together, but when it came time to eat we were both so nervous we just picked at our food. If you know either of us, you’ll know that is extremely out of character. One thing we’ve bonded over is our love to eat. We had plans to watch a movie, but realized somehow we were both on the same episode of a new show. Episodes were binge watched, and neither of us wanted the date to end. It was such a simple first date, but it was the perfect start to our relationship.

Originally the plan was for Dawson’s parents to watch Marcy while we went out on a date. Marcy turned 3 weeks old that day, and it would’ve been our first date since having her. However, a public proposal just isn’t us. On a bit of a whim, Dawson decided to change the plans. He asked Ariel to come upstairs with him to change Marcy’s diaper together. When Ariel made it up there, he had a special onesie that his mom made laid out on the bed. It said “daddy it’s time to give mommy our last name,” and Ariel was in tears already just reading it. Then he got down on one knee and proposed. It was the most perfect moment. Dawson said that it just felt right to do it alone, together as our little family. It was perfect.
