Travel Note
We are hoping to align out of town guests with in town guests to minimize the number of people that need to rent a car. Take a look at the spreadsheet below and add your information if you can provide or are seeking a ride. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zdkfvzsJArFRwykTdfQjaJfwosU65WhnUTNkMztQyFc/edit?gid=0#gid=0 If you are staying Portland it is pretty reasonable to use transit, Uber/Lyft, rent by minute bikes, etc. to get around.
Travel Note
The biggest clusters of hotels are downtown, these will good options for the greatest access to transit and easiest for a day or two before or after the wedding at Camp Cedar Ridge. There are also car rental pickups downtown if you transit/rideshare to your hotel and then get a car to get to Camp Cedar Ridge. If you're staying longer in Portland we suggest the Southeast quadrant of town (east of the Willamette River and south of I-84) where we live. Great neighborhoods include Buckman, Hosford-Abernathy, and Richmond. Our house is in Foster Powell but that starts to feel slightly more car dependent. For context Ariel and Dan's house is at 5721 SE Boise St.
Travel Note
We know some out of town guests are planning on extending the trip and vacationing in the Pacific Northwest. A loop Dan has envisioned is from Portland drive east to Hood River, spend a night or just afternoon. Head south up Mt. Hood with an optional stop at Timberline Lodge and Mt Hood Village (note: this is a mountain pass, check travel conditions, chains or traction tires may still be required this time of year). From here head back to Portland down highway 26. Alternatively, continue south to Bend and spend a couple days there or in Sun River. From there head west to Eugene or Salem. In between there are several hot springs, some resort style, some just off the road but requiring hikes. Or stop in Sisters and drive the scenic McKenzie pass. Spend a night up in the mountains or in one of the cities. At this point you could head back north to Portland or continue west to the coast. About the coast, in Oregon there are few Sandy beaches and it is often rather cool. However, the scenery is picturesque and the atmosphere often described as moody. Every small town on the coast has it's own charms, we have spend time in Lincoln City, Newport, Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Astoria but the options are bountiful. If I had to pick which trips to make, most definitely a drive and perhaps hike in the Columbia River Gorge, and then somewhere on the coast.
