How Long to Stay in Cyprus

Cyprus - the home of Arie's extended family - is a beautiful island country in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. The country is Greek in culture and heritage, but draws influences from all their coastal neighbors in regards to cuisine, history, and architecture. Despite being a physically small country (you can drive across in just 3 hours), there is so much to see and do! Many travelers spend one to two weeks exploring the country - whether they are lounging at the beaches, exploring the mountains, partying all night long, or visiting all the castles and historical antiquities. We recommend you spend several days before or after our wedding enjoying all the country has to offer. If you have the time, we also recommend you visit some of the nearby countries on the way back home - including Greece, Italy, Croatia, or the Pyramids in Egypt. Please reach out to Arie at aapolycar@gmail.com for questions or insights to make your entire travel experience smooth and memorable.

Flight

Larnaca International Airport (LCA)

While you may find a couple airports in Cyprus, the largest and best one to fly into is in Larnaca. There are no direct flights from the United States - you will need to fly into a major hub in Europe and from there connect to Cyprus. There is also a hub in Jordan that may be cheaper. Expect ticket prices to be around $1500 per person round trip. One more affordable option is to buy separate tickets - one with a major airline to a major European hub (London, Amsterdam etc) and the other with a discount airline to Cyprus. For recommendations on travel paths, please feel free to reach out to Arie directly at aapolycar@gmail.com. Please also send Arie your itinerary for when you enter the country.

Travel Note

Do I Need a Rental Car?

Probably not. To get from the airport in Larnaca to Ayia Napa or Protaras, you can get a Ride Share or Taxi at fair prices. Navigating within the cities is also quite easy. We will provide information on travel the day of the wedding soon - but a car won't be necessary. Uber is not available in Cyprus, however the equivalent that should be downloaded in advance is Bolt. If hailing a Taxi, make sure you set the price before you get into the taxi. However, if you plan to drive around and explore the country we would definitely recommend renting a car at the airport. Driving is generally safe, although be aware Cypriots drive on the left side of the road and there are roundabouts in abundance.

When Should I Get My Lodging?

The sooner the better. Cyprus is a major travel destination for European tourists, and places are booked well in advance. Cyprus does not typically do 'room blocks', but we will update this page with recommendations at various price levels for hotels and resorts.

Where Should I Get My Lodging?

Ayia Napa or Protaras are your best options - two sister resort towns right next to each other. Both have beautiful beaches and boardwalks to spend your day. However, Ayia Napa is better suited for night life while Protaras is a bit more family oriented. Keep in mind the ceremony is in Ayia Napa on a hill, while the reception is closer to Protaras on the coast about a 10 minutes drive away (see 'Schedule' for locations). While tourists sometimes do hotels/resorts, more common is actually to do beach villas or apartments. You can use villas2let.com.cy, Expedia, AirBNB, VRBO, Rent by Owner or www.cyprusvillas.com/rent to find places. You can find good affordable options for as low as $55 per night, nicer options for under $150, or resorts for under $300.
