Question

Which airport is closest to Vigo? Are there direct flights from our countries? Is it better to fly via Madrid or Lisbon?

Answer

The nearest airport is Vigo Airport (VGO), located 15–20 minutes from the city center. However, many guests find better connections by flying into Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) – a 1-hour drive from Vigo. Porto, Portugal (OPO) – a 1-hour and 45-minute drive, with many international flight options. There are no direct flights to Vigo from Venezuela or the United States, so the most common route is via Madrid, Barcelona, or Lisbon. Madrid is usually the most convenient connection with the most availability, while Lisbon offers good fares and connections from the Americas.

Question

Can I get there by train?

Answer

Yes, you can get there by train from Madrid, it takes approximately 4.5hrs.

Question

Where do you recommend staying and how far in advance should I book?

Answer

In the travel section of our website, you'll find all our accommodation suggestions, selected for their convenient location and easy access to wedding activities. Since May is a very busy month in Vigo and Galicia in general, we recommend booking at least 2 to 3 months in advance to ensure availability and the best rates.

Question

What's the weather like in Vigo in May? What do we recommend you bring?

Answer

May in Vigo is usually mild, with temperatures between 13°C and 20°C, but the weather in Galicia can be changeable. We recommend bringing a light jacket or coat, especially for the evenings, which tend to get cooler.

Question

How long should you stay and what can you visit in Vigo?

Answer

Our wedding will take place from May 21st to 24th, and you'll have Saturday, May 23rd free to enjoy the area. If you'd like to make the most of your trip, we recommend staying an additional 3 to 5 days, as Galicia and northern Portugal offer many wonderful places to visit. In Vigo and the surrounding area, you can enjoy: the Cíes Islands, one of Galicia's most beautiful landscapes; the Old Town (Casco Vello) and the seafront promenade; beaches like Samil and O Vao; and nearby towns such as Baiona, Combarro, and Sanxenxo. Furthermore, if you have extra time, we highly recommend two excursions: Santiago de Compostela (1 hour away): a historic city, ideal for a cultural and gastronomic experience; and Porto, Portugal (1 hour 45 minutes away): perfect for a day trip, with wineries, views of the Douro River, and a beautiful old town. These visits are ideal both before and after the wedding, depending on your travel plans.

Question

What currency is used? Can I pay by card? Where can I exchange money?

Answer

Spain uses the euro (€). International credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, including taxis and restaurants. If you need cash, you can withdraw euros from ATMs or exchange money at currency exchange offices in airports and major cities (Madrid, Lisbon, Santiago, or Porto). There are also options in Vigo, although more limited.

Question

Do I need an adapter to charge my devices?

Answer

Yes, in Spain they use type F plugs (two round pins) and 230V current. If you are coming from Venezuela or the United States, you will probably need a universal adapter.
