Andrew and I are high school sweethearts, but unlike most couples, we didn’t meet in class, at a football game, or through some cute romantic movie moment — we met through Overwatch. A mutual friend secretly put my gamer tag into Andrew’s PlayStation so we could finally meet, which sounds sweet now, but at the time I had absolutely no idea who this random guy was and honestly thought, who the hell keeps messaging me? Every time we were online, Andrew would message me asking how my games were going. Meanwhile, I was giving him the driest, most painfully boring responses possible because, again, I had no clue who he was. Most people probably would have taken the hint… but not Andrew. He kept trying anyway. Eventually, I gave in and decided to play a game with him. That one game somehow turned into talking and playing together every single day after school. The funny part is that even though we went to the same high school back in Washington, we never actually had a single class together. So instead, we had to become experts at seeing each other during passing periods or finding creative ways to leave class so we could catch each other at lunch. Before long, one little lie turned into another, and eventually we had no choice but to tell our parents that yes — we were actually dating. Now here we are, 9 years later. About half of that was spent doing long distance, which definitely wasn’t easy, but somehow video games were what brought us together and what helped keep us together too. To this day, we still play side by side — except now our gaming setups are right next to each other instead of miles apart. It was a long journey to get here, but we finally made it. We have our very first home together and we’re finally ready to start this next chapter as the Lims.
