That is why we now abide in faith, hope, and love — and the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13). On this day, as we celebrate marriage, we are reminded that while faith will guide us and hope will inspire us, it is love that will sustain us today, tomorrow, and for all the years to come.
In 2023, Afonso and Isabel met while they both lived at Afonso’s uncle Alfredo’s house, a place that, by coincidence, connected their destiny. Alfredo isn’t only Afonso’s uncle; he is also a close friend of Isabel’s dad. What started as sharing the same space slowly turned into something much more valuable: friendship. Somewhere between everyday conversations, shared routines, and countless small moments, Isabel found her favorite person to annoy — second only to her younger sister, Vicky. Their friendship grew naturally, without either of them noticing how important those ordinary days would become later. Toward the end of 2024, Afonso moved into his own apartment, stepping into a new chapter of his life. A few months later, at the beginning of 2025, Isabel moved in with friends while searching for an apartment of her own. Even with different addresses and busier schedules, some traditions quietly formed. Every Sunday, at Isabel’s invitation, Afonso would come over to dine with Isabel and her friends. It was during those Sunday dinners that Afonso realized his feelings for Isabel had grown into something deeper. What had started as a friendship had quietly become love. Then came April 25th — Afonso’s birthday. On that day, Afonso confessed his love for Isabel and expressed his desire to marry her one day. At first, Isabel hesitated. But with encouragement from friends and family, Isabel decided to give Afonso a chance, a decision that changed both of their lives. And that history has led us here: from friendship and teasing, to Sunday dinners and second chances, to building a future together.
