On a semi-impromptu trip around the Emerald Isle, Alex and Shelby decided to leave the coast and head to an island far far away… sorta. They booked an excursion charter to Skellig Michael, about an hour boat ride away, in hopes of seeing the seasonal Puffin migration. Upon docking, they were greeted with the ominous cliffside that they were to hike, and explore the beauty of, for the next two hours. They climbed 700ft of vertical stairways while accompanied by thousands upon thousands of Puffins who had just arrived to nest. These birds travel from far and wide to the island every year to mate and foster offspring. It is widely believed that these Puffins mate for life. Upon their descent, they stopped midway down the mountain nicknamed “Christ’s Saddle”, where Alex pretended to want to snap a few photos of their new bird friends. Unbeknownst to Shelby, he was waiting for an unsuspecting tourist to walk by so that Alex could recruit them to be their engagement photographer. Luckily for him, they didn’t have to wait long. Upon giving this nice gentleman clear instructions to “just keep taking photos” Alex took his position next to Shelby and, while only struggling a few times to take the ring out of his zipped coat pocket, eventually surprised Shelby by taking his knee, and the rest is history!
