Both Indian attire and formal Western attire are acceptable. Traditional Indian attire includes sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, and kurtas. Formal western attire includes long dresses, blouses, formal pants, button-ups, ties, suit jackets, and blazers. For the Sikh ceremony, you will be required to cover your head fully. We will have a limited supply of silk bandana head coverings available for guests, but if you do not wish to use those, please bring a scarf, chunni, or dupatta that covers your head appropriately. Western hats and other kinds of regular headwear is not appropriate for this occasion.
Guests of the groom will gather for the Baraat in the parking lot at 7:45am. Look for The Groom and the growing crowd. Guests of the bride must meet at the venue prior to the start of the Baraat. When the Baraat is proceeding, you will be expected to stand outside the venue entrance to welcome The Groom and his guests. The Bride will not be present at this time, and will first appear during the Bride entrance during the morning's Sikh ceremony.
Conventionally, Sikh ceremonies are only allowed at the Gurudwara (holy place of worship). Our Sikh ceremony is designed to replicate a Gurudwara hall. As such, there are specific requirements for guests entering the wedding space. 1. Shoes must be removed and left outside the entrance, please wash your hands after removing your shoes, before entering the ceremony hall. 2. All guests must cover their head fully. Silk bandana-style coverings will be provided or you may use shawls, chunnis, dupattas, etc. Inside, guests are expected to sit on the floor with legs crossed. We have cushioned seating for your comfort. Guests physically unable to sit on the floor will have limited seating on the sides and the back of the hall, matching how the real Gurudwara accomodates elders.
The Hindu wedding will take place on the outdoor lawn, under a highly decorated Mandap. Guests will be expected to take a seat on one of the chairs in the lawn to watch the ceremony. At the entrance to the ceremony lawn, there will be a basket with rose petals. Please grab a small handful as you enter. When directed by the priest, sprinkle these petals toward the happy couple.
