Every year, Sheetala would go to the mandir in celebration of Janmashtami, the birth of Hindu God Lord Krishna. Little did she know, this special day would change her life forever. While she was at the Mandir, she saw a boy across the room and was immediately captivated by him. He, however, as any typical teen boy would – showed no interest. A few weeks later, Sheetala went to the haunted forest in Olney with a few friends. On that cold chilly night, fate and brought the two together again. This time Aradhya noticed Sheetala and mustered up the courage to talk to her. One facebook post onto Sheetala’s wall led to daily texts which led to countless phone calls and then to video chats through ovoo. They’ve been together since high school and even went to the same college at The University of Maryland College Park!

Since Sheetala and Aradhya are from two different cultures, they were both nervous about the parents meeting! Sheetala met Aradhya’s parents around the time they started dating. However because her parent’s were protective over their daughter, she was nervous about telling them. They finally met Aradhya sophomore year in college and everything went great! As nervous as they both were about the parents meeting, they are now very good friends. Both parents saw that Sheetala and Aradhya were both very cultured by their families, but more importantly they showed love and respect which was the most important thing.

The day before her engagement ceremony, her mom told her to go to the temple to pick up something for the ceremony. Sheetala was already irritated because she had to run errands and her sister, who was accompanying her, was taking forever to get ready (even though she was actually stalling to get Sheetala to the Mandir at the exact right time!). Sheetala was so mad that she didn’t even realize the excitement her family showed as they drove to the Mandir. When she got there, the priest lead her into a room where she thought she would be picking up the item her mom needed. To her surprise, Aradhya was on one knee asking for her to marry him in the same room they first saw each other. This was the best surprise she could expect and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
