We met at the hospital where we both work and that is the only similarity between our versions of the story.
Jessica made the first move and she refuses to admit it. I was coming out of a patient's room when Jessica spotted me. She approached me and asked "Hey! When did you come to night shift?" and it was at that moment that the heavens parted, sunlight lit her face and the wind blew through her hair. Jessica then asked me to help her with her patient, even though I wasn't assigned to her patient or even on her side of the unit and refused help from anybody else. How could I possibly say no? Conversation sparked and flowed easily while I helped her. Afterwards, we continued the conversation through the hospital's messenger. We chatted all shift. I knew I had to ask her out on a date when she told me that pineapple does go on pizza as long as it also has pepperoni and jalapeños.
Our very first time meeting was during a patient's transport to MRI on dayshift [unusual for both of us, as we work steady nights]. I was in a relationship at that time, but little did I know what the future would hold. Some time later, we were both situated back to nocturnal life working night shift. Me, as a neonatal intensive care unit nurse and he, as a float respiratory therapist who didn't work in a specific unit. And on one particular night, he was scheduled to work in the NICCU. I recognized his face and asked "When did you come to nights?" [He says I did a whole hair flip and batted my eyelashes with that question lol] but I was just scoping out which RTs I could potentially call on, should my patient need assistance. Sure enough, my patient's vitals signs took a turn for the worst and Adrian was nearest to help! It led to an opportunity to spark a conversation that developed into an undeniable chemistry. I had to invest in it further and I'm so glad I did! <3
