Aquila's Version: Callie and I met on a Friday night at the only lesbian bar in Colorado. It was the same night my baby sister moved out of my place and back to New York. I was understandably sad and went out with some new friends. I was standing at the bar and Callie walked in to my left; our eyes met, we smiled at each other and started talking. She asked me to sit with her, even though she remembers it differently. We spent two hours together that night, she asked for my number and that was the beginning of our love story. Callie's Version: I never go out to "look" for someone or a girl for that matter. It was a Friday night and I heard about this Lesbian bar called Blush & Blu and thought I'd check it out that night on the 27th of January. As I walked in, I immediately noticed Aquila sitting at the bar with the most beautiful magnetic smile. I thought she was with someone and felt guilty that I began taking her away from the company sitting with her. We moved to the lounge area and talked about intriguing topics like mental health, music, books, and more. She and I connected on different levels with similar interests and values. We later played pool and then I got her number and walked her to her car because I wanted to be sure she was safe. That's all it took. Here we are 7 years later, with a house, 2 cats, a dog and two boys almost fully grown.
To be honest, I've wanted to marry Callie within the first years of dating. She did not give in to me, however, when she proposed to me, it was magical. She orchestrated a flash mob with some of our closest friends and family at Union Station- Denver. I was pulled into the middle by the dancers, Callie read me her proposal and our boys gave me flowers. It was completed with a lovely brunch, champagne toasts, speeches from our friends and dancing to Whitney Houston. Even though I am introverted, I specifically requested a HUGE engagement and Callie delivered. I felt so special and so loved.
