We had actually met a few times before this, and Marilyn thought April was no fun! Can you imagine? Then, a Halloween party changed everything. One cable knit sweater, one pair of party-store fairy wings, one too many bad mixed drinks, and one infamous pickup line ("I like redheads..."), and we never looked back.
April asked Marilyn for her hand a number of times, from planning a "maybe someday" Irish cliffside elopement practically the night they met, to bestowing heirlooms in a dorm room, and finally, to the elaborate charade that was a "typical" stop at Northampton's The Roost cafe (See "Things To Do") with MoH Molli Ellis, where a ring was hidden in the customary raspberry chocolate cupcake. This took weeks of planning, and bypassing Marilyn's superhuman intuition to pull it off is still one of April's proudest achievements.
April regularly insinuated that she would appreciate being proposed to, even as wedding planning began to ramp up. Under the cover of a very romantic, candlelit Valentine's Day Dinner, Marilyn popped the question (again) in a greeting card, and then on one knee in the kitchen. She said yes!
