We have two very different versions of how we met, but we can agree on one thing, it was magic from the start.
I was a baby nurse. I was tasked to shadow the rapid response nurse. At this time, Alexis was working in the Neuro ICU; we didn't know each other then. Suddenly I hear the overhead speaker come on. There is a code in the neuro ICU. My preceptor and I rush up to the tenth floor to find a man trying to meet his creator. Quickly my preceptor jumps into action and asks me to bring this man back to life. As I'm doing compressions, I feel the stare of someone. I look up and see Alexis across the room, with a clipboard, looking into my soul. People are yelling medications, she doesn't miss a beat as she jots everything down and yells out times. I couldn't tell if I was breathless from beating on the man's chest, or from her burning gaze. Since that day, that same gaze has melted my heart. We've been inseparable and deeply in love. Now we get to form a beautiful life together.
As Grey's Anatomy as it sounds to lock eyes while doing CPR on a patient when we first met...that’s not how it went. The first time I ever met April in 2018 we were in the hospital cafeteria, I was grabbing some lentil soup and she came right up to me talking to me like she’s known me forever and asking how the soup was. I looked over at her and saw just how beautiful she was so I was trying everything in my power to be smooth and cool. The only words I could muster was “uhh just add some cheese on it”. Ever since that famous line I have since added many things to this relationship, honesty, love, silliness, but most of all I upgraded from cheese, to adding a ring to it! April is my rock and we have been building and nurturing this beautiful relationship into what is is now.
