One of our favorite places to hike (or to drive, on Trail Ridge Road)! If you have time (or if you want to take advantage and make your trip out to Colorado a little longer), definitely check out the beautiful mountain views and lakes. You'll need a parking permit -- make a reservation promptly after August 1. We suggest the following hikes: Easy: Sprague Lake (0.7 miles of paved, flat boardwalk around the lake with beautiful views of the Continental Divide) Moderate: Emerald Lake (4.1 miles round trip, 744 feet, you get to see three crystal clear lakes on this hike, definitely a ton of bang for your buck!) Challenging: Sky Pond (8.6 miles round trip, 1,771 feet, there's a quick scramble up a waterfall on your way to this high-mountain lake) Flattop Mountain (8.5 miles round trip, 2,874 feet, hike up to the Continental Divide Trail and see where Blackbeard walked! From the summit it's a quick hike over to Hallett Peak, where you can stand on the true Divide)
A great option for lunch and dinner. Serves delicious Colorado cuisine and the ambiance is super cozy.
The Stanley Hotel is beautiful, historic, and it also so happens to be the inspiration for The Shining. The hotel offers lots of different kinds of tours--the Historic Tour, the Shining Tour, and the Frozen Dead Guy Tour (we'll let you learn more about that one yourself). Follow the link below to learn more about each of those. Or, if creepy isn't your thing, the hotel has great dining options! We recommend checking out the Whiskey Bar, or making a reservation for dinner or brunch.
If you're a bit of a thrill seeker, check out this alpine slide. It's a fun way to see some beautiful mountain views.
