Antwan and Chailee met in NYC on their first day of rehearsals for Bring It On: The Musical. As the long rehearsal days went on, Antwan, being the cheer captain, would always check in on the cast. Chailee always put her things in the same chair everyday, and ironically so did Antwan, which was the row right in front of hers! As the months went by they became travel buddies both on the plane, and the tour bus. They watched movies, listened to music together, and became best friends. Once the tour ended, they said their goodbyes and went their separate ways to opposite sides of the country. Antwan and Chailee remained close friends (which if you asked Chailee's friends and family, they were already dating). He helped her move her things across the country from PA to WA on a train, and Chailee went to visit Antwan in NC a few times. After about a year of long distance and being "just friends," while Chailee was visiting Antwan in Raleigh, he asked her put together a puzzle that read... “Bug, will you be my GF?” (Cue Chailee's waterworks). She of course said YES!
By now Chailee and Antwan had been officially dating for 3 years. They had been through it all: Antwan working in China for six months two weeks after they started dating, continued long distance, moving to Atlanta, new jobs, Chailee going back to school, and soon to be moving in together. For their 3 year anniversary they made plans to take a trip at the end of summer. Little did Chailee know Antwan had much larger plans in store. While they traveled down to Key West, Antwan had given Chailee a card for their anniversary explaining how he was sorry the relationship wasn't “further along” at this point and thanking her for being so patient. So, at this point Chailee knew "IT" wasn't happening! They planned some fun excursions and went parasailing and snorkeling. The morning of August 14th, Chailee wanted to go for a early morning run along the beach while Antwan slept in, so typical! While she was out for a run, he bolted down to the front desk to book a dinner cruise and asked everyone where he could find a last minute photographer or videographer. That evening, upon boarding the dinner cruise, Chailee immediately spotted the photographer and thought they were going to have the opportunity to be in a promo video. While relaxing and enjoying food and drinks the song “Brown-eyed girl” started playing, which was the song Antwan always imagined proposing to. He immediately asked her to dance (kinda their thing) and while singing and dancing, Antwan dropped to his knee and asked Chailee if she would be his dance partner forever! In complete gymnast fashion, Chailee threw her arms up and yelled YES! Link to engagement video: bit.ly/TLCsayyes (case sensitive)
