Opposites Attract Our paths first crossed in 2019 as we both entered the Issachar Center for Urban Leadership—young college students eager to begin school and build our lives in a local community. Was it love at first sight? Not exactly. It was more like, “Who is this quiet, standoffish girl?” and “Who is this loud, crazy Kenyan boy?” It wasn’t until 2020 that we began having more meaningful conversations, getting to know each other's personalities, and bonding over our shared love of The Bachelor & The Bachelorette. A friendship formed, and in 2021, we decided to start dating. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic was the perfect time to begin a new relationship. We had to get creative with how we spent time together—long walks, bike rides, hikes, picnics, and more. While the pandemic pushed many people apart, it brought us closer together. Over the years, we’ve navigated both our cultural differences and similarities, completed marriage counseling, started new jobs, experienced the loss of loved ones who passed away, and enjoyed plenty of delicious Nyama Choma (goat meat). There is so much more to our story, and we’re excited to keep writing it together in the years ahead. Asante kwa kusoma Thank you for reading 🤍
