How We Met

We met on the first day of college in our general Chemistry class. He asked me for a pencil and he was smitten right away. I saw a buff guy I was happy to sit beside. Over the next year and a half we became great friends studying for exams for hours on end and hanging out with our mutual friends. It wasn't until two of our buddies drew it out for Antonio that I wanted him to ask me out that he finally took the plunge. One date at Red Lobster and lots of Cheddar Bay biscuits later, that was it. This was it. We've been inseparable ever since.

The engagement

After living in Madison for almost two years, Tony was drawing near the end of his Master's program in Bacteriology. When planning for the graduation ceremony, we knew his mom, dad, brother's, and grandma would be attending. I asked both my mom and dad if they wanted to come and one had plans they weren't sure they could miss, one was unsure. I don't entirely remember, but then one day they were suddenly both so sure they were coming. Sign #1. Sign #2 I didn't notice as a sign until after the fact since everyone has to go to the bathroom right before big events. Tony went up to his lab before a pre-ceremony event to go to the bathroom and was gone quite some time. Later I found out that's where the ring was stored for the 24 hours Tony had it in his possession. Honestly, there weren't any other signs. I will forever be amazed at how well he was able to make it a surprise. We were walking around the UW Allen Centennial Gardens and found a gazebo to take pictures under. I obviously wanted the first picture with him, but was shooed away so his Nana could go first. I'll admit I was peeved and I think that helped with the surprise. I walked up for my turn and Tony started turning towards me, placing his hand on my shoulder. I shoved him off trying to get a great picture. Next thing I know he's on his knees and I'm shocked at the most spectacularly perfect ring and surprise he just pulled off. There was only one thing to say, ABSOLUTELY YES!
