Mrs Antonine Berthaud, born Brutus (Tatie Toto, nennenn, ma tante Antonine, grand-mѐre), from the city of Gonaives, who was born on July 30, 1925. Wife/spouse of the late Rostand Berthaud, a well-known former teacher in the Cité de L’Indépendance. She gave birth to six children who were the pride of her family, parents and friends. Ms. Antonine Berthaud has distinguished herself as a career teacher who has spent more than 25 years instilling in disadvantaged youth a solid education and values that will have marked them for life. If Ms. Berthaud has proven herself as a teacher, she is less known as a designer. Thanks to her talent, she made in pencil real works of art on sheets, tablecloths, doilies, dresses and pillowcases that were entrusted to her before their stage of embroidery. This allowed her to make ends meet at a time when teachers were only earning two hundred Haitian gourdes a month. Introducing Ms. Antonine Berthaud also means talking about her qualities as a believer, a good counsellor, and a cultured woman. As a Christian, she prays tirelessly, while surrendering herself to the divine will. Her faith in God has enabled her to overcome many difficulties in life. As a counsellor, she is the poto-mitan around which gravitate family and friends, young and old, men and women, both in Haiti and abroad, either to seek advice or to learn about the well-being of others. With a great capacity for listening and empathy, she is always available to offer wise advice and as much moral or economic support as possible according to one’s specific needs. It's no wonder she likes to stay connected to world news as well as news of her family, friends and the people she loves so she can support or help them if necessary. She also follows religious, cultural, and political programming on television or on YouTube to discuss daily either in person or over the phone when she is not reading, doing crossword puzzles, or playing board games. Mrs. Antonine Berthaud remains a generous woman, concerned about the well-being of those around her, whose intense passion is to help the most needy people with great tact and kindness. In this regard, she would not hesitate to welcome an indigent from the street in poor condition for a chat or to give him water to drink or to wash himself. Finally, Mrs. Berthaud being a friend of all, maintains good relations with everyone: parents, old and new friends, servants, neighbors, former students... We offer our sincere congratulations and ask God to grant her health and courage to be among us for a few more years.
