How We Met

4.18.12

April 17th started out like any other day - Antonia woke up for a day of classes, and Nick woke up for another long day of studying for finals. That morning, Antonia was slightly more anxious than normal - she was dateless to her first sorority formal, and the deadline to find a date had pretty much come and gone. That was, until, Amy, Antonia's friend who had made it her mission to find Antonia a date, was walking with her friend Kyle down Comm Ave and ran into Nick. They got to talking about plans for the weekend. Kyle and Amy were both going to the Alpha Phi Formal and told Nick he should go with Amy’s friend, Antonia. Nick was stressed about finals though and said no to their offer. After some persistence (and after Amy showing Nick a picture of Antonia) Nick decided to flip a coin to decide if he would go or not. As fate would have it, the coin landed heads and the next night they both got ready, nervously excited to meet their blind date. Right off the bat, Antonia was struck by how handsome, charming and hilarious Nick was. And in Nick's words, he thought Antonia was the most gorgeous and interesting girl he had ever met. They had an amazing time that night laughing, dancing, and chasing the passed hors d’oeuvres around the venue. By the end of the night they felt like they had known each other for a lifetime - they even laugh now about their pictures together from that night, where they look like they've been dating for years. As Nick says: "life is a game of chance, and with one coin flip I proved that I am the luckiest man alive." Truth be told, Antonia feels like she is actually the lucky one :)

The Engagement Story

3.23.18

We had been living in together in our Brooklyn Apartment for 2 years when we decided to take our first real vacation together. Nick knew that this was the perfect opportunity to pop the question. We planned a four night trip to Iceland and had everything planned to the minute. On the day of our flight to the biggest blizzard of the year hit NYC… it looked like our flight wouldn’t make it out our Newark - Luckily, we were flying WOW Airlines (now defunct). This low cost carrier out of Iceland only operated one flight per day to Newark and was determined to stick to their schedule! (Apparently, they couldn’t afford not to) By the grace of God we were the only flight that managed to take off that night! We drove along the south coast of Iceland exploring everything this beautiful country had to offer. Nick had planned to propose on night two of our trip when we were staying at a gorgeous and romantic stand-alone hotel on the East Coast, a hundred miles away from the nearest town or city. After an amazing dinner, we got bundled up to see the northern lights. Right when we walked outside there they were! Green and purple and orange, it was the most incredible sight we had ever seen. We jumped into the car to head to Diamond Beach. Antonia thought they were just going to get a better view, but little did she know that was where Nick had planned to ask her to marry him. But by the time we got there the northern lights had disappeared. We stood outside for almost two hours waiting for them to come back, before deciding it was time to give up. We headed back to the hotel, and magically right when we were getting back the lights started to reappear. This was it, Nick had a second chance. Nick convinced Antonia to take a couple of pictures before they went back in for the night. After a few test shots Nick got down on one knee and asked Antonia to be with him forever, she said yes of course, and the rest is history!
